Amala at crossword Bookstore

The Crossword bookstore in association with Scholastic India, a leading publisher of children’s books, hosted the launch of a book For kids, by kids at City Centre mall. The book was released by the chief guest Amala Akkineni, actress and social activist, amidst children, their parents and teachers.

The book features selected award winning entries from the scholastic writing awards of 2009. The book showcases the exciting stories of young writers between the age group of 10 and 16.

Amala said, “I had a sneak peak of the book. I must say the book is amazing the way children wrote it.

These are the future talented writers.” Amala admitted that she was a fan of fictional stories. Amala gave away the prizes to the winners of Scholastic Awards 2009. After the book launch, the prizewinning children read out their contributions. While Shriya of Niraj Public School read out a creative fictional tale, another winner Najeeha voiced her opinion on democracy.

Later, an interactive question and answer session was arranged with the young writers.

Neeraj Jain of Scholastic India said about the awards process, “We reached out to more than 3,000 schools and the contributions of the children were judged by schoolteachers from various institutions. Twenty five per cent of the best entries were filtered and judged by well-known authors.”
